Three local skiers headed to nationals

Miranda Sheely, Nicole Anderson and Ellie Hartman will be heading to Sugarloaf, Maine, to represent the Rocky Mountain Division and Summit County for the J2 Nationals March 3-11.

The 10 best 15- and 16-year-old women and men from the RMD are selected based on their national rankings and results from the Millennium Bank FIS Jr. Series to represent the RMD at Nationals.

These three Team Summit athletes will compete in all four events – downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom – against the best in the United States.

“It’s highly competitive and a great honor to earn a spot in this prestigious event,” said Sylvan Kaufman, the Team Summit coach who will travel with them to the event. “This is definitely a testament to the hard work these girls have put in all season long. From the early season weight-room training to results on the hill, it’s great to see them achieving their goals and having the success they deserve. If they ski to their potential they should do very well” said Kaufman.

At the Surefoot FIS Elite Series Races, Hunter Black jumped his FIS standings significantly by earning both a first-place and second-place finish in the two days of racing at Steamboat Springs last weekend, making him a contending force in the Rocky Mountain Division for Team Summit.
