Tiger boys just miss victory at Buena Vista track meet

BUENA VISTA – The Summit High School boys track and field team earned its best result of the season Thursday, falling four points short of winning the Buena Vista Invitational.”Our boys were in first place for most of the meet,” Tigers coach Kristy McClain said. “It came down to the last race of the day – the 1600-meter relay.”Summit’s fifth place finish in that event dropped it to third in the overall standings. Buena Vista was the winner.Summit’s boys got first-place finishes from Stephen Ike (100 low hurdles), Chris Rice (3200 run), Helaman Salas (long jump) and Braden Shoop (triple jump and high jump).”We were really impressed with Shoop,” McClain said. “He’s been out with an ankle injury and that was essentially his first meet in six weeks.”Times and distances from the meet were not available as of press time.Summit’s girls took fourth place in the 10-team competition.The Lady Tigers were led by Catherine Clark, who won the 100 low hurdles and the 200 dash. Clark was also part of the victorious 1600 relay team that included Katie Sodergren (second in triple jump, third in 800 run), Madeleine Child (third in 300 hurdles) and Stephanie Wade (sixth in 200 dash).Summit’s Nadi Dejulio took second in the long jump and fifth in the high jump; and Sharayah Dosset took third in the discus.The Tigers will return to action Thursday at Englewood.Adam Boffey can be contacted at (970) 668-4634, or at aboffey@summitdaily.com.
