ENGLEWOOD – With five first-place performances coming from Tiger athletes, the Summit High School gymnastics team edged Columbine Saturday, 158.05-154.15, for its second victory of the season.Emma Koenig won the bars competition with a score of 8.05, while Katie Lindbloom and Leilani Bruntz tied for first in the beam at 8.4. Meanwhile, Robin Lewarton and Heidi Sorenson tied for first in the floor routine at 8.0. Leilani Bruntz and Amelia Meier tied for second (7.9) on bars and Lauren Biegler was close behind with a 7.75. Kira Brietholtz’s 7.9 on floor put her in third behind Lewarton and Sorenson. Biegler scored her second state-qualifier in the all-around competition (32.05), guaranteeing her a spot in the state all-around. Though the team score bested the Tigers’ 157.125 performance on Tuesday at Conifer by less than a point, head coach Beth Flaherty felt the day was a much better representation of what the girls are capable of.”We were much more focused,” she said. “The Tigers were definitely back on track today. We still have some work to do, but I feel good about the direction of the team.” Summit hosts a quad on Thursday against Bear Creek, Columbine and Conifer. -Richard Chittick
