Tiger track and field strong in Leadville

With a slew of high finishes – including a win by Liam Meirow in the 1,600-meter run – the Tiger track and field team had an impressive showing at the Lake County Invite, an indoor competition in Leadville on Tuesday.

The Summit boys’ wound up second in the nine-team standings.

Meirow scored the team’s top finish of the meet, but the Tigers had eight more top-three placings.



Shane Arnold and Wade Rosko were second and third, respectively, in the 880-yard run, and the Tiger relay team of Ridge Strickler, Curtis Dankof, Jesse Riotto and Ben Sloan finished runner-up in both the boys’ eight-lap and boys’ 4-lap races.

Danny Daigle was third in the 50-meter hurdles, and Strickler finished third in the 160-yard dash.



Freshman speedster Maddy Hunt-Snyder was second in the 50-yard dash, fourth in the 160-yard dash and helped propel the girls’ four-lap team (Taryn Spencer, Crystal Nichols, Hunt-Snyder and Julia Thompson) to a fifth-place finish.

In field events, Diane Mastin led the way for the Tigers, finishing fifth in the shot put.

Also having strong performances were Katherine Pappas (third in the 1,600-meter run), Nick Wittrock (sixth in the 50-meter hurdles), and Dankof (sixth in the 160-yard dash).

The Tigers are back in action today, when they travel to Lakewood for the 4A Jeffco League qualifying meet at 3:45.
