The Summit High volleyball team fell behind early in each of its first two games in Thursday’s match at Elizabeth and never recovered.

The Tigers lost the match in three games, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-21.

“They were close,” SHS head coach Liz Hughes said of each game. “We got ourselves in holes at the beginning of each game. It’s a problem we’ve had (all year), and it’s hard to get out of.”

Summit did however jump out to a lead in the match’s third and final game. Unfortunately, four service errors wound up being the difference.

Junior Dustee Faxon had a solid night for Summit in the losing effort. Faxon led the team with 11 service points, four aces and seven kills.

“It wasn’t enough, though,” Hughes said of Faxon’s solid serving.

Senior Julie Oberriter led the Tigers with nine digs and two solo blocks in the match and she chipped in five kills.

Senior Code Seaboldt added five kills without any errors, and fellow senior Jeana Holman also recorded five kills.

“We just had a hard time running our offense,” Hughes said. “We just weren’t passing well enough to do so. That was probably the biggest bummer.”

The Tigers don’t have much time to dwell on the missed opportunities in Thursday’s match, though. Summit is back on the court Saturday with a match at Englewood High School. The match begins following the 12 p.m. JV game.
