The Summit High cross country team took advantage of a fast, flat course at Englewood High School Saturday to post 13 personal- or season-best times.

“We are taking away our stellar race times with us and know that all of our runners put in an exceptional effort,” SHS head coach Heather Quarantillo said via e-mail. “We rarely run cross country races that are as flat and fast as this one, so it was a great gauge.”

The Tiger girls team finished 13th in the strong 22-team field, while the boys’ were 19th out of 24. Each team was without one of its top runners.

Senior Cali Greksa led the girls with a blistering time of 21:14, her best of the season. The Tiger captain finished in 38th place.

Freshman Katherine Pappas was right behind Greksa in 39th place with an identical time, while Tess Olson (43rd), Sydney Stein (65th), Paige Olson (126th) and Ciara Morrison (127th) all ran their best times of the year.

Every member of the boys’ team also hit their top times.

Freshman Liam Meirow was the top Tiger in the boys’ race, finishing in 80th place (out of 174 runners) with a time of 18:44.

Junior captain Emmett Bailey, only 14 seconds back of Meirow, was 91st in the race.

Quinton Bobb (102nd), Robert Koegel (109th), Troy Meeker (122nd), Ian Parker (133rd) and Brecken Chamness (134th) all ran for the Tigers.

Summit competes Friday at the Jeffco League meet at Clement Park against many of the teams the Tigers faced off with in Englewood.

“(Saturday’s race) was a great confidence builder going into the peak of the season” Quarantillo said.
