Tigers go down at Elizabeth, 17-0

LAKEWOOD ” The Summit High School baseball team lost its 10th straight game Thursday afternoon, falling 17-0 to Elizabeth in five innings.

The Tigers (1-12, 0-6 in the 4A Jeffco League) managed five hits against the Cardinals (9-7, 5-3 Jeffco) at All-Star Park in Lakewood. It came two days after SHS got no-hit by D’Evelyn in an 11-0 loss.

Summit co-coach John Padjen said after the game that he understands his team is in a tough situation these days, competing against vastly more experienced and talented groups.

“Right now we’d be a real good JV team,” he said.

Facing Elizabeth’s ace, Summit’s hitters struck out 11 times.

“We kinda got smoked, I guess is the best way to put it,” Padjen said.

Shadoe Amaya went 2-for-2 for the Tigers, and Elliott Cochran tripled. On a positive note, Summit’s defense shined as the Tigers committed only two errors.

Sophomore Scott Campbell started on the mound for Summit and took the loss.

“We’re just a little young right now,” Padjen said. “Hopefully it’ll be a valuable experience later on down the road with this group.”

Summit next plays at Golden on Saturday.
