Time trail No. 3 first-ever permitted timed bike race on path

FRISCO – The Great Adventure Sports Time Trial Series continues at 6 tonight with race No. 3 from Frisco to Copper Mountain on the bike path.

The uphill course begins on the bike path just across from the wooden bridge near the Park and Ride at the north end of Frisco Main Street.

According to Maverick Sports Promotions officials, who organize the time trial series, this will be the first timed bike race Summit County government has ever permitted on the bike path system.

“It is imperative that all racers realize that the bike path remains open during the time trial,” said Jeff Westcott of Maverick Sports. “The white line rule is in effect. If passing other racers or users, announce that you are passing. Do not cross the mid-line, as other users will be descending while you are racing.”

Westcott also said that any complaints about time trial competitors from recreational bike path users will most likely result in the cancellation of future time trials.

Racers should also know that, although racers will start individually in intervals as in previous time trials on the Dillon Dam Road, everyone will be preassigned start times according to bib numbers.

Parking for the race will be limited, but competitors can park in the Park and Ride lot, the Wieronski Plumbing lot across Main Street, the North Ten Mile trailhead under Interstate 70 and the north side of the Alpine Market parking lot. Racers are encouraged to leave cars at home and ride to the start.

Preregistration for the race is $12 and available through noon today at Great Adventure Sports in Breckenridge. On-site registration is $15.
