Time trial No. 4 sprints to Vail Pass summit

COPPER MOUNTAIN – Cyclists better bring an extra set of lungs to the Great Adventure Sports road time trial No. 4 tonight.

The race begins at 6 p.m. at the new Team Managers bike shop in Copper Mountain’s center village with staggered start times beginning with the lowest bib number.

The course goes up the bike path about six miles and almost 1,000 feet to the Vail Pass summit. The finish line of the trial will be at the rest area under the bridge at the Vail Pass summit.

“We’re hoping to get some Vail people racing,” said Jeff Westcott of Maverick Sports Promotions, which organizes the time trials. “Copper is fairly close to Vail, and a lot of the Vail (cyclists) ride that stretch.”

Racers must be aware of the fact that the bike path will be open to recreational users, and they should stay on the right side of the path going up during the race as well as going down after they finish the course.

Preregistration is available for $12 at Great Adventure Sports until noon today or $15 on site beginning at 4 p.m. at Team Managers at Copper.

Parking is available at the Chapel Lot. For more information on the time trial series, visit http://www.mavsports.com.
