Summit County, CO ColoradoFARMER’S KORNER – The Summit High School hockey and girls basketball teams had to find something else to do with their time Friday evening, as their long-awaited return to competition was postponed by the snowstorm that barreled through the Colorado High Country and Denver Metro Area.Summit’s hockey squad was to have hosted Ralston Valley at 5:30 p.m., a team many high school hockey experts have called the most talented team in the state this season. The Lady Tigers hoops squad was scheduled to host nonleague foe Colorado Academy later Friday night, but that contest was also postponed by the weather, which dumped about a foot of snow in the Front Range foothills as well as the Summit County area.Last year’s SHS vs. Colorado Academy game also was postponed by snow.SHS athletic director Gretchen Nies said both games will likely be rescheduled, with the dates to be decided possibly as early as Monday when she speaks with the other schools’ athletic directors. As of Friday evening, the hockey game scheduled for today between Summit and Columbine was still set for 3:30 p.m. at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, weather permitting.Devon O’Neil can be contacted at (970) 668-4633, or at
