Ty Sambrailo goes to the Denver Broncos

Even before Ty Sambrailo sat down, he made an impression at the NFL scouting combine. He walked into the media center wearing a No. 46 event-issued blue jersey with a headband pulling back his disheveled hair. Sambrailo spilled confidence.

This is a kid who spent his childhood ski racing, even jumping off cliffs. It left him with a sense of danger and humor. The dry wit served well after his most memorable leap in college. In 2013 against Cal Poly, Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson rolled to his right before throwing a lob pass back to Sambrailo. The hulking offensive lineman lumbered 11 yards, pinballed off two tacklers and jumped for the end zone with outstretched, taped hands.

He was ruled down at the 1-yard line — which he contests — providing a running joke among his needling teammates. He got the last laugh Friday, touching down as the Broncos’ second-round draft pick.
