The snow just stopped falling — for now — but it’s already time to start thinking about summer bike races.
Riders, mark your calendars for the fifth annual Vuelta a Dillon. The cycling fundraiser returns to Summit County on Aug. 31 with a fondo-style road race on three courses for all abilities: 20, 60 and 90 miles, all held on routes spread across the county. Register by March 31 (as in this Thursday) and get a discounted rate of $65 for the event, including all the goodies that come with it, like a swag bag and support on the course.
“(The Vuelta a Dillon) is the apex of cycling time in Colorado and historically one of the hottest weeks in Denver, but you can bet it will be clear and cool in Summit County,” event promoter Rob Quinn said.
The event, sponsored by Prestige Imports, includes timed sections up Montezuma Road, Ute Pass and a loop around Green Mountain Reservoir. After the event, riders, Summit County residents and visitors will be treated to a free concert at the Dillon Amphitheater and a Porsche and Audi car show hosted by the sponsor.
A portion of all proceeds from rider registration goes to the Evergreen High School mountain bike team, the Colorado High School Cycling League and Warriors for Life, a nonprofit for veterans recovering through cycling.
