What awaits the new coaches

Nordic Skiing

Four coaches in the last five years? How about five state titles over that same span. Yes, this seems to be a juggernaut program regardless of the high school coach, probably due to the county’s sensational youth program, led by Olympian Matt Dayton. Whoever takes over inherits plenty of talent to sweep another state meet next February, that’s for sure.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Tigers may be hard pressed to return to the 4A state tournament for a third consecutive season, no matter who their new coach is. Four starters have departed, including senior Cissy Daniels (14.8 points per game, five assists per game) and sophomore shooting guard Samantha Neal, who averaged 17.5 ppg to lead the 4A Jeffco league but will follow her dad to Golden next season. Lynlee Holloway (9.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg) will need all the help she can get as the only returning starter.

Baseball

As the outgoing co-head coaches said without reservation, Summit likely will need to build an outdoor practice facility before the Tigers ever compete on the diamond. Returning players like Elliot Cochran and Scott Campbell bring hope, but there is the ugly last two years (3-31 record) to consider, too.

Tennis

The Lady Tigers are losing their superstar, No. 1 singles player Sutton Anderson, but their new coach should still have plenty to work with. No. 2 singles player Carly Walsh and No. 3 singles player Alex Critz-Culp will return to the Lady Tigers with all but one of their current doubles teams. The remaining doubles players are the No. 1 duo of Kali Turrin and Megan Hollenbeck; Tiana Shelton and Megan Hartman at No. 3 doubles; and Jodi Houghtaling and Holly Westwood at No. 4.
