As water levels drop to just 23% capacity in the Green Mountain Reservoir, long-lost items are being revealed, including an ATV that’s been beneath the water for half a decade. 

According to a social media post by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the ATV originally belonged to an ice fisherman, who lost the vehicle in the reservoir five years ago. 

“It seemed the ATV would never be found — until now,” the post says. 

The sheriff’s office is working with the U.S. Forest Service to recover the ATV from its current resting place, partially submerged on an island in the reservoir. 

 “The water may get low enough in the next few weeks to get to it from land the entire way, so we are monitoring the water level,” said David Boyd, a public affairs officer with the forest service. 

The departments are also continuing to monitor what else may emerge from the water, as the county suffers through severe drought conditions. 

“While low water levels might not be the best news overall, it sure does make for some interesting finds,” the sheriff’s office’s post says. “Only time will tell what else is waiting to be discovered.”
