Newly formed local chapter of wild turkey club has first meeting

The first-ever fundraising event of the High Rockies Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation took place Jan. 9, with a turnout of close to 50 people.
Member Darrell Burkey wrote in an email to Summit Daily that the chapter held its event at Thirsty Pika Taproom in Silverthorne. Conservation-minded outdoors, hunting and wildlife enthusiasts gathered to raise money in support of wild turkey habitats in Summit County.
The chapter aims to raise money to study wild turkey populations in Summit County and learn more about how the chapter can help the populations thrive, according to a quote in the email credited to chapter president Justin Milizio.
