Jake Straw, detention services division commander for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, has accepted an appointment to the Colorado Jail Standards Advisory Committee. According to press released issued by the Sheriff’s Office, Straw in this role will “shape the future of jail operations and standards statewide.”

Straw, the release states, assisted in developing and passing Colorado House Bills 22-1063 and 24-1054, which established the Colorado Jail Standards Advisory Committee, which has a mandate of standardizing jail operations throughout the state.

“Standards of care for the incarcerated people in jails is an important mission, and one that the Summit County Detention Services Division has been committed to for a long time. With the support of our Sheriff, the Board of County Commissioners, and our community, our jail goes above and beyond to provide avenues for restoration with the goal of reducing recidivism. This appointment helps take our mission statewide,” said Straw.

Straw is one of two appointees representing Colorado’s sheriffs on the board and began his three-year term on July 1, 2024.
