Toyota’s International Snow Sculpture Championships to start Jan. 24

The 35th annual International Snow Sculpture Championships will return to Breckenridge Jan. 24 to Feb. 3.
According to the Breckenridge Tourism Office, this year will showcase one of the most internationally diverse lineups in the history of the event, with 10 of 12 teams traveling from outside the United States. Teams include Ukraine, the Republic of Korea, Italy, Lithuania, Argentina, Germany, India, Finland, Malta, Mongolia, Vermont and Breckenridge.
Each team will carve a 12-foot-tall, 25-ton block of snow into sculpture by hand. Sculpting week starts Jan. 24 and ends Jan. 28. It will begin with opening remarks and a ceremonial cannon start, followed by continuous carving for 94 hours. Sculpting week is free and open to the public.
The award ceremony will be on Jan. 28, which is also free and open to the public. There will be a viewing period for from Jan. 28 – Feb. 3 . The sculptures will be illuminated at night from Jan. 28 – Feb. 2.
The attraction will be outside the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge, which is located at 150 West Adams Ave.
