Cody Jones is the sports, outdoors and ski industry reporter for the Summit Daily News. He joined the team in the fall 2021 while finishing his degree at Portland State University in Oregon.
Prior to his time at the Summit Daily, Cody worked as a contributor to the Portland State athletic department website, GoViks.com, mainly covering the university’s cross-country and track teams.
Cody is a Colorado native who is originally from Greeley, where he became passionate about running and placed eighth at the cross-country state championships in 2016. After graduating from high school in 2017, Cody decided to pursue his collegiate running and academic career at Portland State. Cody’s love for reading and writing sports stories led him to pursue a degree in English, writing and communication.
In summer 2021, Cody got hired as a sports intern at the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, where he cut his teeth on the small communities that make up the Roaring Fork Valley. It was with the Post Independent that Cody got his feel for the necessary passion and drive to be a sports writer in an active, outdoorsy community.
Cody has always loved his home state, so he was ecstatic to get hired at Summit Daily and return to beautiful Colorado. When he is not reporting, he is probably out on a training run, snowboarding, hiking, biking, reading or enjoying a good movie.
