Sawyer D’Argonne

Sawyer D’Argonne is the assistant editor of the Summit Daily News. He reports on public safety, courts, transportation and the town of Dillon in addition to helping out with editing duties on Sundays and throughout the week. He is a former general news reporter at the Sky-Hi News in Granby.

Sawyer has won several Colorado Press Association awards for his coverage of wildfires and avalanches. He wrote his first series in 2019 that dug into the problem of impaired driving in Summit County. Sawyer is most proud of his four-part series on wildfires, Flashpoint.

A Colorado native, Sawyer grew up in Littleton and earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Denver, where he worked as a sports writer for the DU Clarion and as an editorial assistant for the University of Denver Magazine. He earned his master’s degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, while taking classwork in the documentary program and at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism. He produced and directed a documentary short film called “Family Comics” in 2017, exploring the history and censorship of the LGBTQ community in mainstream comic books and popular culture.

In his free time, Sawyer enjoys reading, hiking, playing with his cat, Luna, and cheering on his teams: the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Braves.
