Who will be asked to subscribe to SummitDaily.com?
To start, we will ask our most frequent readers — those who are visiting the site weekly — to subscribe. Over time, we’ll adjust that threshold. Want to subscribe now? Sign up here.
Why do I need to subscribe to read SummitDaily.com?
Since its inception in 1989, Summit Daily News has been free to read and 100% advertiser funded. That business model is no longer sustainable, so we’re asking our most frequent readers to contribute. Revenue from advertisers will continue to fund the majority of our operation. (Read more about why from Summit Daily Publisher Nicole Miller.)
How much will a digital subscription cost?
A subscription will cost $3 per week for readers who want to pay a month at a time (billed at $12.99 per month) or $2 per week for readers who want to pay a year at a time (billed at $104 per year — a 30% discount). For those who pay with a credit card, a 2% transaction fee will be added. ACH withdrawals incur no fee.
What if I can’t afford to pay for a subscription?
We’ll continue to have several ways to read the news for free. Read more below.
Can I still read the news for free?
If you live in Summit County, you can continue to pick up a free copy of the paper at about 250 locations throughout the county. If you live elsewhere or prefer to read online, our e-edition (which is a digital replica of the paper) will continue to be free. In addition, area libraries and schools will have free access. All users will have access to certain sections of the website and some articles for free. Read more below.
What happens if I don’t subscribe?
Without a subscription, you’ll still have access to our e-edition, homepage and all section landing pages across the website — including sports, education, arts and entertainment, etc. — where you can browse the latest headlines. The events calendar will remain free to access along with community notices such as births, celebrations and obituaries. In the case of a breaking news story that affects public safety, such as an emergency evacuation, the article will be accessible to all readers.
Other than unlimited access to SummitDaily.com, what are the benefits of subscribing?
Subscribers will have access to exclusive content, including games, subscriber-only newsletters, early access to special reporting projects and more. In addition, subscribers will help support the longevity of local journalism in Summit County.
Will home delivery be included in the price of a subscription?
No, Summit Daily News has never offered home delivery of its free print paper. It will continue to be delivered at newsstands across Summit County.
How do I subscribe on SummitDaily.com?
Head to SummitDaily.com/subscribe. If you already have an account, simply choose your preferred subscription type. If you don’t have an account, you’ll be asked to sign up.
If I subscribe and decide to cancel early, will I get a refund?
No refunds will be provided, but you will have full access to the site through the end of your original subscription period.
What payment options will I have?
We use Stripe and allow payments through ACH bank account, credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Amazon, Link, Cash App Pay and Klarna. Credit card payments will incur a 2% processing fee. Checks and cash will not be accepted.
How can I change my subscription status?
For those who have an account, simply click on the account icon in the top right corner of SummitDaily.com. Under “Profile Information” there will be a section titled “Subscription.” You can manage your subscription here.
How will you use my email address?
The Summit Daily will not sell your email address or your data. We’ll only email you if you’ve subscribed to one of our newsletters or to share information related to your account, such as benefits and tools.
Why do you keep asking me to log in?
SummitDaily.com keeps users logged in. If you’re being asked to log in when visiting our website directly, it could be because you’ve recently cleared your cookies or are visiting us from a different browser or application. If you’re being asked to log in when coming to our site from an email newsletter or social media, that application is asking you to log in. While we can’t change how third-party apps operate, we have implemented some changes that should allow for an easier transition from apps to our website. This includes links in emails that allow subscribers to access an article without logging in, and a social sign-in option that will improve the transition from Facebook to our site.
What should I do if I’m having trouble making my account or logging in?
If you need support creating an account or logging in, email digitalsupport@summitdaily.com.
Is Summit Daily News going out of business?
No, we’re working to diversify our revenue streams to ensure our business remains sustainable for years to come. This change is part of that process.
