Air quality health advisory in effect in Summit County until Sunday

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an air quality health advisory for Moffat, Routt, Grand, Jackson, Summit, Gilpin and Clear Creek counties, set to last from Saturday, Sept. 6, until Sunday at 9 a.m.

Smoke transported from wildfires outside of Colorado will produce areas of moderate to heavy smoke across the advisory area on Saturday and Sunday, the advisory states.

The advisory goes on to recommend that if smoke is thick or becomes thick in a neighborhood, residents should consider remaining indoors — particularly those with heart disease and respiratory illnesses, as well as the very young and older adults. Residents should also consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in an area, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy, according to the advisory.
