Breckenridge Police Department says now-canceled bomb threat evacuation was sent ‘out of an abundance of caution’

2:40 p.m.: According to a Breckenridge Police Department news release, the department received an anonymous bomb threat around 1:40 p.m. for the area of South Main Street.
The department issued the evacuation notification “out of an abundance of caution,” the release stated. Officers then checked the area, determined there was no threat to public safety and lifted the evacuation notice just after 2 p.m.
The release asks anyone with information about the incident to contact the nonemergency dispatch at 970-668-8600, request to speak with Breckenridge Police Department detective Jennifer Johnson and reference case number 2026-04086.
Summit Daily News sent questions about the incident and the decision to issue an alert. The department responded to the questions by stating “investigators are still working on the case and we will follow up tomorrow if circumstances allow.”
2:01 p.m.: The evacuation order has been canceled for South Main Street in Breckenridge, according to an SC Alert sent roughly 10 minutes after an initial alert warned of a bomb threat. Individuals can return to the area, according to the alert.
1:50 p.m.: People near South Main Street are being told to leave the area immediately due to an “active bomb threat,” according to a Summit County Alert.
Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons stated in a text message to Summit Daily News that this is a Breckenridge Police Department incident but that the Summit County Sheriff’s Office will co-respond if requested.
