11 a.m.: All roads have reopened in Summit County following crashes and vehicle spin-outs.
9:15 a.m.: Interstate 70 has reopened in both directions, though traffic is heavier than normal due to slick conditions.
8:30 a.m.: The first storm to cause snow to accumulate in the valleys of Summit County has also caused traffic issues on Monday morning, Oct. 20.
Interstate 70 westbound is closed near the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels due to “adverse conditions and spun-out vehicles, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Traffic cameras show traffic backing up as snow coats the roadway.
Roughly a half inch of snow is accumulating on lawns and creating icy conditions on roadways surrounding Dillon Reservoir, causing Dillon Dam Road to close. Swan Mountain Road has also seen traffic disruptions due to spun-out vehicles without proper traction.
Traction laws are in effect for both commercial and personal vehicles. Passenger vehicles without four-wheel or all-wheel drive must carry traction devices or have snow tires, and commercial vehicles must carry chains.
The National Weather Service says snow should end around 11 a.m. for most of Summit County before returning tonight. There are two more chances for snowstorms in the next week, including a chance for a “real” storm next Monday, according to OpenSnow.com.
