A New Mexico court vacated the June 22 trial date for the sexual assault case involving a former Team Summit coach.

The court found that discovery has not been completed in the case against Jared Hedges, 48, of Frisco, according to court documents. Discovery is “the formal process of exchanging information between the parties about the witnesses and evidence they’ll present at trial,” according to the American Bar Association.

Taos County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Hedges at Taos Ski Valley on March 22, 2025, and a grand jury indicted him in July 2025 on two counts related to sexual contact with a minor.

At a June 1 pretrial conference, Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Emilio Chavez ordered the prosecution to obtain specific evidence that the defense had requested. The prosecution filed a motion in April seeking to prohibit the defense from requesting it, and the defense filed a response in May.

The court’s decision ordered the prosecution to obtain the specific evidence within 10 days and described exactly what evidence needs to be obtained. The defense filed a request for an extension on June 5, arguing it would require more time to obtain the evidence.

According to court records, the court has not set a new trial date for the case. In the June 5 order vacating the June 22 trial, Chavez wrote that the court found that a continuance could not be attributed to the prosecution or defense. Team Summit fired Hedges after his arrest and adjusted its athlete protection policies later the same year.
