Elevated fire potential sparks red flag warning in Summit County

Summit County is under a red flag warning until 8 p.m. Tuesday as gusty winds and low relative humidity has increased the potential for fire danger.

Winds are expected to remain around 15-20 miles per hour with gusts as high as 30-35 miles per hour. The humidity is forecast to remain around 8 percent.

“A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly,” a warning from the National Weather Service states.

Summit County isn’t expected to receive any rain, and temperatures are predicted to remain above average throughout the week. The next chance for rain won’t be until early next week, according to current forecasts.

Fire danger is “very high” and Stage 1 fire restrictions are still in place.
