Exposure to cold may have contributed to death of man found behind City Market, Breckenridge Police say
Prolonged exposure to extreme cold may have contributed to the death of the man found unresponsive the morning of Sunday, Feb. 1, behind City Market, according to the Breckenridge Police Department.
Oscar Jose Mendez Dominguez, 26-year-old male from Breckenridge, died in the hospital later Feb. 1, according to Summit County Coroner Amber Fleniken. In a Feb. 5 news release, the police department stated that cold temperatures appear to be a “contributing factor” to Dominguez’s death.
The release states the investigation remains ongoing as police await official autopsy findings. It stated the department was “aware of community concerns and rumors” surrounding Dominguez’s death and thanked the community for its help after the police department issued a request for information from the public the morning of Feb. 1.
