Applications closed last week for the 52-unit workforce housing complex near Breckenridge, dubbed the Larkspur, that is set to open later this year. 

According to Summit County Housing Director Jason Dietz, 1,058 people applied for a spot. Applicants still need to be vetted to ensure they meet certain living requirements, and the order for who is offered a unit will be determined by a lottery later this month. 

The single-largest application group by employment were Vail Resorts employees at 23%, Dietz said. Second was non-Vail resort workers in the food and beverage industry at 21%. Third was retail and grocery store employees at 11%.

On Feb. 20, officials will hold a lottery drawing event that will assign a number to applicants. The number will determine the order in which they are vetted. 

All applicants seeking a unit will need to prove they work a minimum of 30 hours at a job based in the county. Additionally, applicants applying for either the studio or one-bedroom units will need to prove they make no more than 80% of the area median income, which translates to an annual income of $62,080 for an individual, according to 2023 figures. 

Applicants will first be contacted via phone by the property management company. If the call is not answered, a voicemail will be left, and they will be sent an email. If there is no answer received within 24 hours, they will be moved to the bottom of the list.

Officials are aiming for a May move-in date.
