Robert Tann

Robert Tann is the county government, education and housing reporter for the Summit Daily News. At times, he also covers real estate and business news. He joined in December 2022 and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Before moving to Summit County, Robert was a reporter for Colorado Community Media where he covered local politics, education, business and more for communities across the Denver Metro area and Front Range. During his time there, Robert won first- and second-place regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for political and enterprise reporting.

Robert also served as an investigative reporting fellow for News21 during summer 2021. The program, based out of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in Phoenix, Ariz., sent journalists across the U.S. for an in-depth series on the impacts of COVID-19. For the series, Robert co-authored a multimedia report on the pandemic’s effects on food insecurity and traveled to rural areas in northern Arizona and urban cities in southern Florida. The series placed as a finalist in the 2021 Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards.

Robert’s passion for journalism began when he was a student at CU Boulder where he served as a staff writer and eventually as editor-in-chief of the online student paper, the CU Independent. During his time as a student, he also interned and freelanced for several Colorado media outlets including The Colorado Sun, Colorado Politics and the Daily Camera in Boulder.

When not reporting, Robert enjoys skiing on fresh powder days, reading an enthralling book or seeing the latest movies with friends.
