Skier dies at Keystone Resort after found unresponsive at ski area’s Outback zone
A group of skiers found a man unresponsive on a ski run at Keystone Resort around noon Wednesday, Jan. 7, according to a Summit County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Keystone Resort said the incident involved a 59-year-old male guest. The bystanders called for help and began CPR on the man, who was located on The Grizz, a single-black run in the resort’s Outback area.
When Keystone Ski Patrol arrived, they continued life-saving measures before moving the skier to a helicopter landing zone, where a Flight for Life helicopter took him to CommonSpirit St. Anthony Summit Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office post states the man was wearing a helmet when the other skiers found him. The investigation is ongoing, the post stated, and the Sheriff’s Office will not provide any additional details at this time.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss,” a quote in the post from Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons stated.
The coroner will release the man’s identity at a later time, the post stated.
