Community support

The Summit County community experienced four high-profile deaths in July, three involving well-known members of the community and one involving a child. Community members experiencing grief can find resources through Building Hope Summit County. The nonprofit’s scholarship program offers community members up to 12 sessions of free therapeutic care with a therapist, licensed addictions counselor or psychiatrist. The nonprofit has connections with over 100 local providers that accept the scholarship.

Fire danger

High temperatures and little moisture have led the county to move to Stage 2 fire restrictions. Stage 2 restrictions ban open fires and campfires; smoking outside enclosed vehicles, buildings or designated areas; wood or charcoal grills or smokers; and hot air balloons. They also put restrictions on chainsaw and off-road vehicle use. There is not much relief in the forecast, which is calling for above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation for the next 30-60 days.

School board

The Summit School District will soon open nominations for four Board of Education seats that are up for election Nov. 4. Qualified candidates must have been a registered voter in the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election. Those interested must submit written notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors. Nomination petitions can be picked up at the Summit School District Central Administration office in Frisco.
