La Voz de Summit
English transcript:
Hazy skies
A haze of smoke from wildfires burning in Colorado has wafted into Summit County in recent days, prompting an air quality health advisory. The smoke is from four wildfires burning in western Colorado — the Turner Gulch, Wright Draw, Sowbelly and South Rim fires — as well as one burning near the state’s border with Utah. When air quality is bad, people — especially young children, older adults and those with heart disease or respiratory illnesses — should consider staying indoors.
Neguse townhall
About 100 people gathered recently at Summit Middle School, where U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse responded to questions about the Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign and the passage of a Republican policy bill. Neguse said the bill, which makes $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, could lead to the closure of eight rural hospitals in Colorado. He said he expects the state legislature will convene to respond to the health care impacts. Responding to a constituent who described ICE raids as “kidnappings,” Neguse said his office is working to respond to immigration-related concerns in the community.
Homicide charges
A man who is jailed on a homicide charge in connection with the death of a 32-year-old Breckenridge woman is also being charged for an alleged attack on another local woman days before the fatal shooting. The woman who survived says she was held against her will, threatened and assaulted. The man is charged with assault in the first degree, menacing with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, criminal mischief and domestic violence in that case.
