Lock it up

After a manhunt in Bills Ranch led to an arrest on charges of burglary, motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding, theft and criminal trespass, local law enforcement officials are reminding residents to lock up their belongings. Summit County Sheriff Jamie FitzSimons wrote that people who may come to the county expecting to find easy targets for crime instead find people who look out for each other. “I urge everyone to always lock their homes and vehicles and report suspicious activity immediately,” FitzSimons wrote. “You never know what it will lead to.”

Financial literacy

Colorado just became the 27th state to turn financial literacy courses into a graduation requirement. Around 25% of Colorado’s 178 school districts have assessed the value of financial literacy in their classrooms and adopted the requirement into their curriculum. Several students living in a district with a financial literacy requirement testified in favor of the bill. The bill applies to high schoolers entering ninth grade on Sept. 1, 2026, meaning those currently in high school are exempt from this requirement.
