Special to the Daily

Silverthorne threw one heckuva a party last Friday, offering locals and guests alike free tasters from more than 30 breweries, distilleries and restaurants for a locals appreciation day that, while entirely free, raised a nice chunk of cash for area nonprofits.

The town offers a monthly series of fun events under its “First Friday” banner. For Silverthorne’s First Friday in May, the town organized a locals’ appreciation party with Locals Liquors on the lawn of the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center, complete with live music and an assortment of tasters.

All of it was free of charge, but the town collected donations during the event.

On Monday, Silverthorne thanked everyone who came while reporting the party helped raise $14,000 for nonprofits, including Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, Family & Intercultural Resource Center, Domus Pacis Family Respite, Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Lake Dillon Theatre Company, Summit Community Care Clinic and Lake Dillon Preschool.
