Loveland Pass closure to cause traffic stops at I-70 near tunnels

Andrew Maciejewski/Summit Daily News
Maintenance work on U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass is closing the road from Aug. 11-14, meaning trucks carrying hazardous materials will be traveling through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels, causing intermittent delays.
Vehicles carrying hazardous materials will receive escorts through the tunnels at the top of the hour for westbound trucks and the bottom of the hour for eastbound trucks, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Other traffic traveling those directions at those times will have to stop and wait for the escorts.
Arapahoe Basin is still accessible, as the closure starts a mile east of the resort at mile marker 222. The other side of the closure starts at mile marker 229, where U.S. 6 meets Interstate 70 east of the tunnels.
