7 p.m., Firefighters knocked down the .1-acre Williams Peak Fire in Summit County Thursday evening with several bucket drops from a helicopter, according to a U.S. Forest Service Facebook post. No growth is expected and crews will hike in Friday to fully contain it, the post stated.

5 p.m., The Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post that the U.S. Forest Service has assumed command of the fire. Responders from Summit Fire & EMS, the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District and the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit are on-scene, the post stated.

Original: The Summit County Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post around 3 p.m. July 30 that deputies and fire personnel are responding to a wildfire near Williams Peak, and no evacuations are currently being considered.

Labeled “Williams Peak Fire” on fire detection app Watch Duty, the fire is small and smoldering in grass and sage, according to Steve Lipsher, the Summit Fire & EMS public information officer. He wrote in a text message around 3 p.m. that some crews initially called to respond to the reported fire had been sent away.

Williams Peak is a remote area north of Silverthorne. The fire’s location on Watch Duty’s map is close to the border of Summit and Grand counties.
