Breckenridge nerd-about-town, Peter Schwinn passed peacefully but unexpectedly on September 22. Pete was a long-time employee of Summit Net Trekker—you may recognize him as your IT consultant. A lifelong skier, you may also recognize him as that guy who yelled from the lift and made a mildly crashed snowboarder laugh.

A native Coloradoan, and frequent mountain visitor throughout his youth, Pete had called Breckenridge home for the last 13 years. Pete made friends everywhere he went as he was exceedingly affable and a born storyteller and charmer who always talked to strangers. He was an unauthorized Breckenridge ambassador.

Peter was often uncomfortably honest, fiercely loyal, and delighted in making people laugh. He showed his love through his cooking. His loved ones are usually recognizable by our thickened waistlines and food-stained clothing.

Peter leaves behind his parents, Bob and Sharman of Littleton, who have strong memories of emergency rooms and the startle reflexes of seasoned bull fighters after having raised Peter. His younger brother, Graham, has been left with a lifetime of hilarious memories and permanent scars. Pete’s sister (in-law, though neither ever bothered with such a distinction) Ashley has a freezer full of steaks he made for her and memories that trigger periodic fits of the giggles. Pete could not be considered a “qualified babysitter” by any standard, but was a deeply devoted uncle to Cooper. Peter had found his forever adventure buddy, Meredith Graham (a fellow Colorado native), who will forever carry Breckenridge in her heart as the home where they fell in love and were happiest.

Pete would like you to take a moment to appreciate this magnificent creation we call home, laugh at inappropriate times, and tip generously. As a long-time IT professional he would also appreciate your at least trying unplugging it and plugging it back in before calling the IT department.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 27, at 1:00pm at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch.

Friends and family will gather to share stories of and toasts to Pete on Sunday, November 16 5:00-8:00pm at Michael’s Italian Restaurant in Breckenridge.
