Robert Edwin Lawyer III, lovingly known as “Trey,” passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Breckenridge, Colorado, surrounded by his family after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Trey was a devoted husband to Catherine Wagnon Lawyer and a proud, loving father to his daughters, Giasson Catherine and Reese Ann, his greatest joy and life’s purpose.
He was the founder and owner of TLC Homes, a custom construction company built on craftsmanship, creativity, and care – values Trey brought to everything he did.
A true Colorado native at heart, Trey had a passion for the outdoors and all things active. He took his love of Colorado sports to the next level. Skiing was his #1, but he also found joy in mountain biking, dirt biking, kayaking, golfing, windsurfing, and sailing. As much as he loved the mountains, he equally loved the ocean and was drawn to the freedom of the waves and the adventures they held. He shared his love of both places generously with friends and family, always making room for one more on the trail, the slopes, or the water.
His faith was quiet but unwavering, and he found his deepest peace and connection to the divine in the mountains he loved.
Trey loved life and lived it to the fullest with heart, humor, and unstoppable energy.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his daughters, Giasson and Reese; his parents, Robert Edwin Lawyer II and Margo Mitchell; and his in-laws, William and Jane Wagnon. He is also lovingly remembered by Kelly, Amber, Kayleigh, and Pierce Wagnon; Megan and Troy Stockton; Zackary Canada and Michael Stockton; Ashley, Chris, Lincoln, Leighton, and Leah Tatman; Chad, Cynthia, and William Lawyer; Sandy and Phil Caudill with Micki Marxer Hernupont, Chrissy Hayes and Andrea Buckley; Diane Giasson and Taylor Bredow; Marilyn and Richard Fenker; and Elise and Drew Atkins with Mia and Chase Morgan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Trey was deeply blessed by an extraordinary circle of friends and family who stood by him through every season of life. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to close friends, our community and many others who offered constant support and love. A special thank-you to his incredible care team: Dr. Erin Beckerman, Dr. Angela Hafernick, Dr. Promode Pinnamini, Dr. David Biggs, and Dr. Wells Messersmith, Dr. John Graham and their teams for their compassion, expertise, and dedication throughout his journey.
A celebration of Trey’s life will be held on Friday, September 12th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at one of his most cherished places, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Colorado. In true Trey fashion, guests are invited to come as you are and wear something that inspires you or reminds you of him, your favorite ski or cowboy hat, something bold, something fun, or something full of life.
In lieu of flowers, friends have set up a GoFundMe page for Gia and Reese’s future. GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/a136e48b
Trey will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever with love.
