UPDATE: Missing child found dead following search in Silverthorne

6:20 p.m.: A 1.5-year-old child reported missing Tuesday afternoon near the Willow Grove Open Space in Silverthorne was found dead later that evening.

The search concluded around 5 p.m.

“The town of Silverthorne is processing a tragic and heartbreaking incident in our community,” the town stated in a news release. Our hearts go out to the family who lost a loved one and to emergency responders who were involved in the incident.”



The Summit County Coroner’s Office will release the identity and official cause of death at a later time, according to the town.

4:35 p.m.: The Silverthorne Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are searching for a 1.5-year-old boy who went missing in the Willow Grove Open Space in Silverthorne, according to a news release from the town. The child was wearing a green sweatshirt, blue jean shorts and white velcro Nike shoes.



The town asks community members with any information to call 911 or nonemergency dispatch at 970-668-8600.

4 p.m.: In a Facebook post around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, the Town of Silverthorne stated the Silverthorne Police and other law enforcement are investigating a report of a missing child at the Willow Grove Open Space.

The post asks the public to recreate in other areas while law enforcement investigates.

More information will be shared when available, according to a town news release.

Editor’s note: A photograph of the child was removed from this story since the search is over and the coroner has not released the identity or cause of death, which is pending until relatives have been notified.
