Silverthorne Town Council member Kelly Baldwin vacates seat as town plans to open applications for a replacement

On Aug. 1, Silverthorne will officially announce a vacancy on Silverthorne Town Council and begin the search to fill the open seat.
Officials made a plan during a July 23 meeting to announce the resignation of council member Kelly Baldwin, who wrote a letter announcing her intentions to vacate her seat on June 28.
In her letter, Baldwin asked the council to accept her resignation effective July 10 after a seven-year run. She said the decision wasn’t an easy one, but she cited her parents’ health, necessary travel to assist her family and her family’s decision to relocate to a different area of Colorado this fall as her reasons for leaving.
“I originally ran for Town Council because I felt like I could “make a difference,” she wrote in her letter. “I feel like I achieved that goal, with the continued development of a Silverthorne Downtown, the purchase and repurpose of the old fire station to the Art Spot, the approval and construction of the new Silverthorne Fire Station, and work on additional parks and open space to segment and surround the town and encourage outdoor recreation.”
Having a background in accounting, Baldwin ran on promoting fiscal responsibility to promote sustainable growth within the town of Silverthorne.
“We’re moving on to the next, but I do want to say thank you to Kelly for what she’s done. We will celebrate that here at some point,” Mayor Ann-Marie Sandquist said.
Town attorney Karl Hanlon presented the resignation to council and recommended announcing it Aug. 1 to give interested applications a reasonable amount of time to make “a big decision.”
According to a staff memo for the July 23 meeting, the town plans to solicit letters of interest for the vacant seat. Those eligible to apply must be a registered voter and a resident of Silverthorne for one year. The seat will serve until the next regular municipal election in April 2026.
The town’s charter mandates the vacancy be filled no sooner than 10 days and no later than 30 days after the vacancy is declared. Information will be disseminated on the Town’s website and social media, E-Newsletter, Blog, and e-mailed to the town’s boards and commission members.
