The Summit County Rescue Group‘s new search and rescue facility in Frisco will officially open Friday, Aug. 29, with an event open to the public.

The event starts at 5 p.m. at the facility, located at 0214 County Shops Road in Frisco. The group started the process of building the facility in 2019, and construction started in 2023, according to a news release.

The release stated the “state-of-the-art facility” is a “major milestone” that will help the group “enhance its ability to respond to nearly 200 calls for help each year.”

Ben Butler, a Summit County Rescue Group mission coordinator, said in a quote in the release that the facility is “more than just a building — It’s a hub for training, coordination, and lifesaving operations that will benefit Summit County for decades to come.”

The grand opening will include guided tours, chances to meet rescue team members and light refreshments. The volunteer organization will use the facility for equipment storage, mission coordination and volunteer training, according to the release.
