Winter weather advisory to take effect in Summit County Friday night
A winter weather advisory is set to begin Friday, Jan. 10 at 11 p.m. and last until Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The advisory applies to areas in Summit County above 9,000 feet, including Breckenridge.
Snow accumulation between 4-8 inches is expected in the areas the advisory covers, as are wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. Snow-covered roads will also make travel more hazardous, the advisory states.
At lower elevations outside the advisory zone, Summit County will still see some snow throughout the weekend.
Snow is likely Friday night, with 1-2 inches possible according to a National Weather Service forecast. Saturday will see a high of 26 degrees and an 80% chance of snow during the day with 2-4 inches of accumulation possible. Saturday night is expected to see a 30% chance of snow and new accumulation of less than an inch.
Cold weather will continue into Sunday at Summit County’s lower elevations, with a 30% chance of snow expected after 11 a.m. and a high near 21, according to a National Weather Service forecast. Sunday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low around -7.
