Letter to the editor: Epic Pass skiers should have to take an alternate route
Littleton
Hello. I’m an old Summit City local for about 10 years — pre-invasion so to say.
I moved down to the Front Range/sold out 20 years ago. I still get to the county a heck of a lot. I keep seeing these articles on traffic. I have an idea. Here goes:
All drivers heading up from Denver, en route to Keystone or Breckenridge, should be herded to U.S. Highway 285. Basically, the gapers with the Epic Pass redirected would save Interstate 70 for the true skiers.
Traffic has literally ruined the experience getting to Copper Mountain Resort. So many jerries are heading to Breckenridge for funnel cakes, time share meetings, etc. It’s absolutely insane. This would help.
Perhaps at Denver International Airport, large signs or billboards could say, “Heading to Keystone or Breck? Avoid dangerous I-70. Choose the faster, safer alternate route. Rolling out of Denver, head toward Red Rocks, stop and snap some pictures then update the ‘gram. Send a couple snaps. Maybe even upload a TikTok. Then hop in the rental car, take U.S. 285 up, over and thru the big valley. Jump Hoosier pass and quickly land at the biggest shredding havens on earth. Keystone and Breck are Epic. Always expanding. Always bustling.”
