Letter to the editor: Help reduce domestic violence in Summit County
Summit Interfaith Council
In the front page article of the Oct. 17 edition, Breckenridge resident Traci Ochoa highlighted the need for more community education about domestic violence. Both the sheriff and the weekly law enforcement calendar illustrate the frequency of these wounding incidents in our county.
We, at the Summit Interfaith Council, want to make the community aware that with ARISE we are working to bring such a program here. Named “The Green Dot Program,” it will train participants to identify behaviors that lead to violence and abuse and enable them to intervene as bystanders in a variety of ways. A long-term goal is to raise awareness and develop skills among our residents, sending the message that domestic violence and sexual abuse will not be tolerated.
Because we attract people from all over the world, we have the opportunity to take a moral stand that could become widespread. If you are interested in joining this movement, contact Torey Ivanic (outreach@ARISEsummitco.org) and get a video about the program (darsiefolsom@alteristic.com).
