Letter to the editor: I hope the town says no to this proposed project in Dillon

I read the column in the March 7 edition of Summit Daily News’s opinion section titled “It’s OK, Dillon, to follow your regulations” with great interest and alarm. I hope others did as well.

The size comparisons to the White House (four of them) and football fields (eight of them) of the proposed new development in Dillon put the massive, behemoth proposal in perspective. It is way beyond reasonable for Dillon and especially that location. Understand that to do this in a profitable way for Mr. Porritt, the developer, the plans violate the height restrictions by not just a little, but by at least 20 feet. He also proposes to violate the way parking spaces are calculated.

My husband attended the proposal presentation by Mr. Porritt, and he understood them to say that the traffic in that small, lakeside area will increase by approximately 2,000 cars per day. 2,000!

There needs to be a strong turnout at public meetings. A written, public comment to the board is another option. It is a very important meeting for the future of Dillon.
