Registration FAQ

The Summit Daily News is asking readers to create an account on SummitDaily.com. The accounts will be free and give registered users access to all content on the site.

Why do I need to register for a free account?

The Summit Daily News has offered its reporting for free since its inception in 1989. The media business has changed significantly during that time, and we must also evolve in order to ensure that community journalism endures. The Summit Daily employs the largest newsgathering team in Summit County and does critically important watchdog and investigative journalism that no other organization can provide. To sustain this work, we need support from our readers.

How do I register for a free account?

If you already have an account for our email newsletters, desktop news alerts or the digital replica of the print paper, you’ll be automatically registered in the new system. You’ll receive an email with your login credentials. If you don’t already have an account on our site, you can register at SummitDaily.com/register.

How does this help me?

Creating and logging into an account on SummitDaily.com will help Summit Daily editors learn more about what types of news interest you, and then we can dedicate our resources to do more of that kind of work. That means more of the news you want to read. Accounts will also help users manage subscriptions and follow topics that interest them. The long-term goal is to create a more customizable news experience for our users.

How does this help Summit Daily?

When we understand more about our audience — who our users are, where they’re from, what they’re interested in — that allows us to more meaningfully interact with our readers and provide them with the news they’re most interested in. It also allows us to better meet our advertisers’ needs, which will allow us to sell more of the impressions on our site locally. Readers like our free model, and this allows it to continue.

How will the account work?

The account will give you access to all pages and articles on SummitDaily.com. In addition to news articles, some site features will be accessible only to those with an account, such as e-edition archives, submission forms and interactive features.

How will you use my email address?

The Summit Daily will not sell your email address or your data. And we won’t spam you. We’ll only email you if you’ve subscribed to one of our newsletters or to share information related to your account, such as benefits and tools.

What happens if I don’t register?

If you don’t create an account, you’ll still have access to some areas of our site, including the most recent e-edition, the homepage, news category homepages (such as sports or entertainment) and classifieds. We’ll also work to ensure all readers have access to information pertaining to emergencies and threats to public safety. Other than that, reading articles will require logging in.

What should I do if I’m having trouble making my account or logging in?

If you need support creating an account or logging in, email digitalsupport@summitdaily.com.
