Applications have opened for the Youth Forest Stewards, a program hosted each summer by Friends of the Dillon Ranger District that engages high school students age 14-18 in natural resources and conservation-based work outdoors.

Students in the program will participate in up to seven forest stewardship volunteer projects from June through September. Each project will differ and may include new trail construction, tree thinning, fish surveys, wildlife habitat restoration and much more. By joining the Youth Forest Stewards crew, students will help build a community of like-minded students focused on bettering the White River National Forest.

By attending five of the seven projects throughout the summer, students will be awarded $200 to use toward education. For more information or to sign up for the program, visit FDRD.org.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
