Blue River police officer recognized for impaired driving enforcement by Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a nonprofit dedicated to ending impaired driving, and the Colorado Department of Transportation honored Blue River Corporal Jennifer Kruse with the Law Enforcement Champion Award for “Outstanding Individual Dedication to Impaired Driving Enforcement.”

Kruse received the award May 21 for her performance in impaired driving enforcement. In addition to enforcing the law in Blue River, Kruse teaches the detection and investigation of impaired driving at Colorado Mountain College Police Academy in Breckenridge.

As a certified instructor, Kruse certifies law enforcement personnel from other agencies in standard field sobriety testing.

In a news release, Blue River Chief David Close said it is an honor to have as dedicated of an officer as Kruse.

“We may be the smallest agency with the smallest jurisdiction, but Corporal Kruse’s efforts have a significant impact on our local public safety and extend to the larger community as a whole,” Close said in the release.

Even in a small community like Blue River, impaired driving poses a serious public safety risk. The last three deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the town were related to DUIs, and around 20% of motor vehicle crashes in Blue River are DUI related.
