This fall, Breck Create invites the community to its Dia de Muertos and Latin Festival from Friday, Oct. 17, through Saturday, Oct. 18.
The two-day celebration will take place across the Breckenridge Arts District in downtown Breckenridge and will honor Latin American culture, ancestry and people.
The festival will begin on Friday evening with the opening of “Lo que La Tierra Abraza/What the Land Embraces,” a powerful new exhibition by Denver-based artist Juan Fuentes at Old Masonic Hall. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with local nonprofit Mountain Dreamers and shines a light on the lives of Summit County’s immigrant community.
Following the reception and artist talk, the evening will continue with a candlelight vigil and traditional Aztec down by Grupo Huitzilopochtli.
On Saturday, the Arts District will be filled with larger-than-life calaveras (skeletons) by Denver based artist Cal Duran. Additionally, papel picado will be strung up overhead and there will be a community ofrenda (altar).
Throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to experience hands-on workshops, face painting, live music and a Latin Market with over 20 vendors.
