The teenager who was injured in a roof avalanche while playing outside in Breckenridge last month is expected to recover, according to the Breckenridge Police Department.

Breckenridge Police Department Chief Jim Baird called the hospital after the incident and was told that the teenager would recover, police administrative supervisor Colleen Goettelman said in an email Tuesday, April 23.

The roof avalanche occurred on March 18. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reported that the avalanche partially buried two teens, one of whom was seriously injured.

The avalanche center says roof avalanches can critically injure or kill people. The state has seen five roof avalanche fatalities over the past 30 years, with the slides often occurring after large snow storms or when rapid warming follows a big storm.
