With open enrollment now underway for next year’s health insurance plans, Coloradans who shop for their own coverage may be seeing a surge in prices.
Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s individual marketplace that provides insurance options for more than 300,000 Coloradans, announced recently that average insurance premiums could more than double in 2026. The increase is largely being driven by expiring federal subsidies for health insurance plans, which will lapse at the end of this year unless Congress approves an extension.
Health care plans in Colorado’s High Country are already some of the most expensive in the nation, and several mountain communities have the highest uninsured rate in the state.
